Borgo del Cabreo is born of a great passion of the Folonari family: the passion for Tuscany, its land and the wines it produces and which, for over a century now, are at the heart of the family’s business. This is a passion that extends beyond the wines to the traditions and history of this land, of which the farmhouses that dot the pristine landscapes are a testimony.

FAMILY PASSION
For Ambrogio, head of the family, his son Giovanni, his wife Giovanna and their daughters Francesca and Angelica, loving Chianti also means ‘giving back’ and allowing others to share in its beauty.

From this belief came the idea, in 2012, to start restoring the Estates’ ancient properties and their surrounding land, diversifying into ‘eno-hospitality’ as a complement to the wine business.

The first one to be restored was Villa Nozzole in 2012, followed by Borgo del Cabreo, which opened in 2017. Giovanna has inspired and directed its restoration and looked after every detail with exquisite taste and immense dedication.

Francesca, who lived and worked in New York, Frankfurt and London, and combines the passion for hospitality with international flair and management experience, now runs Borgo del Cabreo. Supporting her is a team of experienced professionals who share the same vision of hospitality, making sure that every guest has a unique, unforgettable holiday.

ROOMS & SUITES
Borgo del Cabreo has 11 rooms: one Deluxe Suite, 6 Deluxe Bedrooms, 3 Superior and 1 Double room. The décor is refined and elegant, specially chosen by the Folonari family to ensure guests enjoy a truly relaxing holiday in the heart of Chianti.

DELUXE SUITE
The Deluxe Suite is an elegant 65sqm barn conversion. The main bedroom with king size bed is on the mezzanine and has a free-standing bath. On the ground floor there is a large open plan living room and a smaller bedroom/living room with sofa-bed (160×200).

DELUXE ROOM
King size bedroom (approx. 30 sqm) with wonderful views across the countryside. The room is elegant and full of charme and the bathroom is comfortable and luxurious. Free baby cot available upon request and subject to availability

SUPERIOR ROOM
Double bedroom (approx. 22sqm), elegant and full of character, with wonderful views across the surrounding countryside. Free baby cot available upon request and subject to availability.

DINING
Room rates include a rich and scrumptious buffet breakfast, with an ample choice of home -made cakes, tarts, and savouries prepared daily by our staff. We do not serve lunch or dinner, however, we are located only 700m from Greve in Chianti, home of many delicious restaurants, cafés and pizzerias, where one can enjoy the many delicacies of Tuscan cuisine.

Our staff is happy to advise guests and to make bookings. Our restaurant at Pietra del Cabreo (600m from Borgo del Cabreo) is open every day from 7pm to 10pm, exclusively for the guests of our Relais.

WINE TASTING
Borgo del Cabreo is part of the Tenute Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari winery . The winery’s headquarters and wine-tasting facilities are at the Nozzole Estate, about 7Km from Borgo del Cabreo.

Guests can reach Nozzole with their own transportation or by taxi. Taxis need to be booked well in advance, especially during the summer, and our staff is happy to help. Tours are daily and can be booked through our staff. Our guests benefit from a 20% discount on tours and tastings.

Each wine-tasting experience includes the tasting of 3-4 wines, with ample varietal choice between Chianti Classico, Super Tuscans, our ‘Icon’ wines or white wines.

Each tasting is always accompanied by typical bruschetta bread with our Nozzole EVO oil and local delicacies. Besides the tasting, it is also possible to visit our oak barrel (barriques) ageing cellar and our collection of historical vintages.

SANGIOVESE TOUR
The tour includes a visit of the oak barrel ageing cellar at the Nozzole Estate, our collection of historic vintages from 1980 and a guided tasting discovering the secrets of the most representative grape variety of the Tuscan terroir: Sangiovese.

We will guide you along a sensory journey explaining how terroir of origin and different winemaking methods give distinctive characteristics to the same 100% Sangiovese blends.

A journey that will take you from Florence to Siena, exploring the history of winemaking written by famous wines like Chianti Classico, Nobile di Montepulciano and Brunello di Montalcino.

BABY SUPERTUSCANS
These wines are called Baby SuperTuscans, because, while sharing the same grape blends as their senior ‘cousins’ SuperTuscans, they do not undergo any aging in wood, but only in steel. Such a winemaking technique makes them very fresh and easy to drink, soft on the palate and rich of fruit scents. They are perfect for aperitifs combined with Tuscan delicacies.

WINE SHOP
At Borgo del Cabreo there is a Wine Shop, which carries a selection of our excellent wines as well as our extra-virgin EVO olive oil. For a complete offering of our products, we suggest a visit to the Wine Shop at Tenuta di Nozzole where you can also book a wine tour and tasting.

ACTIVITIES
Staff at Borgo del Cabreo is happy to help our guests organise their perfect holiday offering a wide range of unique experiences to chose from. Only 700m away, and easily reachable also by foot, is Greve in Chianti, a lovely Tuscan village, renowned for its unique main square surrounded by arcades, where every Saturday a traditional open market takes place.

There are many opportunities for longer walks or bike treks, either with a specific destination in mind or just for the pleasure of wandering amongst vineyards, olive groves or through the oak woods at the top of the hill.

In Greve one can rent bicycles, Vespas or cars to reach the numerous art destinations of the area. Radda in Chianti, a medieval town surrounded by walls, is amongst the preferred ones for its unique atmosphere, which carries you back to an ancient past and its traditions.

San Gimignano, the world- famous medieval town perched on a hill with its distinctive towers, is only 40 minutes away and a 45 minute car journey will take to either Siena or Florence.

If you are looking for unique experiences, it is possible to organise tailor-made guided tours, cooking classes, hot air balloon tours, horseback riding excursions, a truffle hunt, local cheese tasting and much more.
