HISTORY
Borgo Scopeto Wine & Country Relais is a typical medieval village in the Tuscan countryside with a historical memory dating back to the year 1000. Its name comes from the abundant presence of Erica Scoparia, green heather, in the area, with which the brooms were produced.

Born as a fortified settlement built by city of Siena to defend itself from possible sieges, it was conquered by the Florentines during the period of wars between Siena and Florence, who erected as a contempt a Marzocco, symbol of popular power, which is located in the main garden still.

From the fourteenth to the nineteenth century it was owned by the Sozzini family, a noble reformist Sienese dynasty, who transformed it into a castle. Over time, other buildings were added to the main tower, such as the main villa, the stables, the farmers’ houses, the chapel and the cellar, transforming the property into a real village and a thriving farm, dedicated to the cultivation of vines and olive tree.

Around the seventeenth century a garden was then created, called Roccolo, for the noble art of training falcons. Still existing today, it has become a mystical, almost sacred place, ideal for meditation and ceremonies.

The strong agricultural vocation of the area led Elisabetta Gnudi-Angelini, the Lady of Sangiovese, to buy the village in the 1990s. By carrying out a careful and meticulous renovation work, she restored the complex to its former glory, transforming it into a luxury hotel, accompanied by the homonymous farm a few kilometers from the hamlet, pride of the Italian wine scene that boasts a very fine production of wine and olive oil.

In fact, the province of Siena is the only one in Italy to have achieved neutrality in carbon dioxide emissions since 2011, thanks to the presence of local ecosystems such as forests and geothermal centers capable of absorbing the emissions produced.

The view of each room is unrepeatable and exciting; from the fantastic views over the city of Siena with its Torre del Mangia and the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, to the Monte Amiata and the beautiful hills of Chianti with its vineyards and olive groves, to the large gardens and lavender fields in the estate, to the romantic internal views on the borgo that recall the past life of the village. VILLA LA TORRE
Villa La Torre, whose name recalls the characteristic shape of its building, is a very particular two-storey villa that can accommodate up to 6 people. The comfortable rooms boast high ceilings and exposed beams in the typical Tuscan style. The ground floor consists of a cozye private living room and the master bedroom.

The wrought iron spiral staircase leads to the upper floor where the second double bed is located, surrounded by small windows overlooking the countryside. The garden, with its fantastic 230x180m Jacuzzi, offers a fantastic panoramic view over the lavender fields and the woods of the property. (60 sqm)

VILLA SUITE IL FIENILE
Villa Suite Il Fienile is a lovely, one of a kind , two-storey apartment, where you can enjoy a lot of peace and tranquility. The small patio and the outdoor veranda have a splendid view on the olive trees, a perfect backdrop from sunrise to sunset.

It comfortably accommodates 4 people; on the ground floor there is a cozy living room with sofa bed and bathroom, while on the upper floor there is the lovely master bedroom.

COUNTRY APARTMENT
The Country Apartments are two spacious and bright apartments for 4 people, with two double bedrooms and a paved outdoor garden that enjoys an enchanting view on the lavender fields and tennis courts. The lawn around the apartment is ideal for practicing yoga or playing with the children.

MASTER SUITE
The 120 sqm Master suite has two double bedrooms with private bathroom, a study with sofa bed and private bathroom, a large living room with armchairs, sofas, fireplace and cocktail cabinet. It can accomodate up to 5 people.

DELUXE
The Deluxe Rooms with double bed, or two single beds, are designed in typical Tuscan style with elegant and refined furnishings. Perfect for 2 people and 1 child in a cot.

LA TINAIA RESTAURANT
La Tinaia restaurant is located where the ancient cellars of the estate were once located. The finely restored ambients present themselves today in all their elegance, distinguished by large vaulted rooms, with a wonderful view of the main garden and the wisteria pergola.

Here the strong bond with the territory meets the creativity of the Chef Pietro Fortunati, who offers the guests of Borgo Scopeto Wine & Country Relais a cuisine that enhances the flavors and aromas of tradition with a gourmet and contemporary touch.

La Tinaia will delight the palate of our guests by offering for the dinner an interpretation of Tuscan cuisine that is always creative and innovative, with a deep respect for quality ingredients from our territory.

BORGO BISTROT
Borgo Bistrot is our lunch proposal for our guests. A quality and fast cuisine, with a simply authentic taste. A burger bar style line, with burgers, focaccias, crostoni (big croutons), salads and Tuscan classics, combining local ingredients with more international flavors.

BAR & POOL BAR
Treat yourself to a moment of pure pleasure sipping a coffee made to perfection, a good glass of wine or a cocktail served by our Il Castello Bar. An evocative setting where you can spend time for an aperitif or after dinner, in our elegant lounge, savoring delicious paired appetizers made by our chef.

On hot summer days, cool off at the Pool Bar located in the garden of our adult pool, which overlooks Siena. Every day we offer our guests excellent aperitifs, tasty snacks and light courses, to enjoy a day of total relaxation by the pool.

THE CHEF
Chef Pietro Fortunati, born in 1989, is a Tuscan DOC. Passionate about cooking since childhood, he grew up by carefully observing his grandparents in the kitchen preparing the traditional recipes of Tuscan cuisine.

Graduated from the Le Cordon Bleu School of Haute Cuisine, he began his career at The Four Season in Florence, at the Michelin starred restaurant Il Palagio, where he worked for a few years.

He arrived at Borgo Scopeto Wine & Country Relais in 2013, alternating the summer season with the winter season between the Hotel de Russie in Rome under the guidance of Fulvio Pierangelini of the Le Jardin de Russie restaurant and the Dei Lorena restaurant at the Hotel Bagni di Pisa.

Today Pietro leads the kitchens of Borgo Scopeto Wine & Country Relais full-time, showing in each of his creations the love for the raw material and the continuous search for flavors that are able to give the right push and lightness to the traditional Tuscan dishes, that marked so strongly his childhood.

TREASURES OF THE LAND
Our Relais is surrounded by hectares of vineyards and olive groves from which the farm produces excellent wine and olive oil. Our guests will have the opportunity to visit the cellars of the Borgo and taste the treasures of our land.

THE WINES
Our farm covers an area of about 500 hectares located in the Sienese municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga, within the historical perimeter of production of Chianti Classico DOCG wine. The vineyard area of the company extends for about 70 hectares, consisting mainly of Sangiovese grapes. Here we produce:

Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Within our property there are 5000 olive trees from which our Chianti Classico DOP Extra Virgin Olive Oil is produced with Moraiolo, Leccino and Frantoio olives. It has an intense color, with luminous reflections, a fragrant aroma and a slightly spicy savory flavor, with aromatic notes of dried fruit.

THE VEGETABLE GARDEN
Among the large green spaces of Borgo Scopeto Relais we have a vegetable garden, the lifeblood that supplies our kitchens with high quality raw materials.

We grow more classic varieties of vegetables such as tomatoes for sauces and salads, courgettes, peppers, aubergines and cucumbers, flavors that are the basis of our recipes, together with more particular and uncommon varieties, to increase biodiversity, wild, exotic and many aromatic and medicinal herbs that help enhance our dishes.

Our guests can discover what we grow in the garden by participating with the chef with an introductory lesson, which will then lead them to harvest and use in the kitchen.

BEEKEEPING
To safeguard the environment and the biodiversity, we have committed to respectufully raise the bees, which unfortunately are an endangered species. Our bees thus pollinate the trees and plants of our estate and produce our delicious daily nectar.

Among the green spaces of our structure we have some lavender and helichrysum fields located near our hives, which allow us to obtain a very exquisite honey and royal jelly.
