The Capanna winery produces all the typical wines from the Montalcino region, from Brunello di Montalcino DOCG to Rosso di Montalcino, from Moscadello di Montalcino DOC to Sant’Antimo DOC red and white wines, as well as extra virgin olive oil, Brunello grappa and Moscadello grappa.

RUSTIC ELEGANCE
All the spaces of Capanna Suites, both interior and exterior, were designed and built following a precise idea of beauty: a beauty that is both rustic and elegant, created from the finest cloth, wood, stone, handcrafted metals and natural materials. The modern elements are in perfect harmony with the ancient and traditional Tuscan architectural lines.

All the amenities and furnishings were chosen to bring together uniqueness and variety and to have a special design and style in each room, with harmony as the common thread. The idea that is represented everywhere is the blending of nature and simplicity on one side and design, comfort, modernity and technology on the other.

AUTOMATION & SUSTAINABILITY 
Our incredible attention to environmental sustainability has pushed us to use home automation technology for our room controls, such as lights, room temperature, hot water, etc., not only to offer our guests welcoming and modern accommodations filled with comfort and intelligence, but also to avoid wasting energy and to contribute, when possible, to a sustainable vision for our company.

THE APARTMENTS
Our two apartments both have beautiful views over the hills of Montalcino and are elegantly furnished in Tuscan chic style. They are located on the first floor of one of our restored farmhouses and they can be interconnected together to each other. Our apartments are ideal for longer stays as they have everything necessary for a pleasant and luxurious vacation.

The apartments each measure approximately 40 square meters and the kitchen is equipped with the newest generation household appliances, dishes and glasses of every type, utensils, a large refrigerator that is stocked daily with drinks and typical Tuscan products and an induction cooktop. Just like in the rooms, here you will find a wine fridge with more than 20 bottles of wine from our winery.

The apartments both have an individually controlled air conditioning and heating system, a spacious master bedroom with a 49 inch HD TV, a beautiful bathroom with a double sink, toilet and bidet, a courtesy set with quality products, soft superior quality cotton towels and bathrobes, personalized slippers and a large shower.

In our apartments, guests can organize their day as they see fit, deciding to prepare their own lunch or dinner at any time of the day and enjoying the utmost privacy and practicality.

DELUXE ROOM
The two Deluxe rooms are luxury rooms of more than 40 square meters each that are elegantly decorated in Tuscan chic style. Each room is accessed from its very own independent entrance located in the private garden directly in front of the suite, complete with hammocks and a view over the breathtaking landscape.

The Deluxe rooms are private garden view, and have every necessary amenity for an enjoyable, luxurious stay filled with relaxation and Montalcino’s famous food and wine. Each room has a beautiful bathroom with a large shower.

SUPERIOR ROOM
The Superior Rooms are luxury rooms that are elegantly decorated in Tuscan chic style. The Superior Rooms are about 35 square meters and have everything you will need for a pleasant stay filled with relaxation, rest and convenience, all while enjoying fantastic, breathtaking views.

Most of these rooms has a view over the hills of Montalcino and the valley below. Each room is equipped with a beautiful bathroom with a spacious shower.

DINING
Our restaurant, Il Passaggio, is the second jewel in the Capanna crown. Rising on the top of a hill, it was designed and built to make a stay at the adjacent Capanna Suites a truly unforgettable experience and to offer guests a sensational panoramic view to the surrounding Sienese countryside and to the town of Montalcino.

Guests of the agriturismo dine here each morning during an elegant seated breakfast that is included in the price of the room, enjoying an amazing vantage point in an atmosphere that is bright, airy and the perfect way to start the day.

IL PASSAGGIO RESTAURANT
Il Passaggio Restaurant, just as the name which means “the passage” in English suggests, is much more than just a simple restaurant. It takes diners on a journey to discover the secrets of food and wine.

It is a place for those who love to experience fine and elegant dining that brings joy to all the senses, and is filled with unique tastes, aromas and flavors that are then perfectly paired with one of the many wines from the incredibly well-stocked wine cellar.

The Chef , along with the entire kitchen and wait staff all work together to offer guests an elegant and unforgettable experience, indeed a spectacular culinary show that is sure to delight the senses.

At lunch, guests can order from the fanciful bistro menu. For dinner, lovers of gourmet cuisine will find a fine dining menu created to give an enthusiastic experience of joy and entertainment for the palate.

THE LUNCH
Il Passaggio restaurant, located within our agriturismo property, offers the possibility for our guests to enjoy an elegant and tasty seasonal bistro menu. Our dishes make use of Tuscan ingredients and, when possible, include ingredients harvested directly from our vegetable garden and farm.

It is always possible to pair our dishes with one of our estate wines or from other wonderful Tuscan wine producers (we have a wine list of more than 300 labels to choose from). If you would like to have lunch with us, please reserve ahead of time at the reception desk or directly with the restaurant staff.

THE DINNER
Our Chef proposes a special fine dining menu for the evening that varies according to the season. All the ingredients used in our dishes come from our local region and when possible are produced directly on our farm.

The preparation and presentation of our dishes is carefully executed, with special attention paid to even the smallest detail and the combinations of flavors, so that each dish is sure to leave an impression in your mind of this splendid Tuscan gourmet retreat.

If you would like to have dinner at our restaurant, we recommend that you reserve a table at the reception desk or directly with the restaurant staff.

THE POOL BAR
Are you craving a sandwich, a salad or a cool fruit drink? The Capanna Suites pool bar is the place to go, and is located right next to the swimming pool. The pool bar is open from 12 noon until 8 pm, only during the summer period.

WINE TASTINGS
Capanna Suites offers its clients preferential treatment to participate in tastings of the excellent wines produced on the estate. Guided visits and tastings are done in our winery complex, located just a few minutes from our holiday accommodations. Our staff is available to give directions to help you arrive.

If preferred, you can instead take advantage of the possibility of tasting our wines directly at our restaurant with one of the delicious and inspired food and wine pairing experiences available on the menu. For our guests, a basic wine tasting is included and free

THE VEGETABLE GARDEN
From the moment we began designing our onsite accommodations and restaurant, we decided to also create a large vegetable garden. Now completed, the result is a terraced area of land about 200 square meters in size that is divided into 7 quadrants. It is located on the estate, right near the reception and parking area.

The vegetable garden wasn’t created to be purely ornamental: even if the overall effect is of great aesthetic value. Instead, it was primarily planted to guarantee our restaurant, Il Passaggio, a constant source of homegrown, seasonal vegetables and edible flowers.

The care of the garden is entrusted to a specialized collaborator who takes care of it throughout the year by rotating the crops according to the calendar and cultivating it using principles inspired by biodynamics.

EVENTS
Capanna Suites is the perfect venue to host a wedding or a family reunion to bring together your family and friends for a vacation filled with old affections and new experiences.

We can sleep up to 24 people in our vacation accommodations, making our property the perfect location for an intimate wedding ceremony or family reunion. Furthermore, the property is suitable for activities like team building or really any event where comfort, relaxation and attentive service are required.

WEDDINGS IN TUSCANY

We can help you realize your dream of getting married in Tuscany in the idyllic setting provided by the rolling hills of the Sienese countryside. We are able to offer a sensational and panoramic wedding venue at the top of a hill facing the town of Montalcino with the backdrop of endless vineyards.

Not only can we offer an idyllic setting but also an elegant, refined and private atmosphere as well as the incredible creativity and extraordinary cuisine of our great chef and the excellent Brunello di Montalcino wine produced on tour estate for your guests to enjoy.

Capanna Suites is just one part of the larger Capanna universe that includes an excellent winery that has been producing Brunello di Montalcino since 1964.

The vacation accommodations are located on the top of a hill with a breathtaking panoramic view and have undergone a complete renovation with careful attention given to every detail and then were furnished with beautiful design pieces.

Capanna Suites has a beautiful panoramic terrace with a view as far as the eye can see over hills and valleys. There is also a manicured garden filled with flowers and aromatic herbs that offers the possibility to perform symbolic wedding ceremonies against an elegant and natural backdrop.

ELOPEMENT 
Capanna is the perfect love nest for those who want an intimate wedding: an elopement for two in Tuscany in a one-of-a-kind location. Eloping is a fairly common way to get married in other countries and in recent years it has become popular as well with Italian couples and those choosing Italy as their wedding destination.

It allows the couple to get married in a unique venue but without guests and therefore without spending a lot of money, in a truly special and private manner. For those who want to free themselves from a classic and structured wedding and instead choose Capanna as their elopement destination we have created our elopement packages.

At Capanna, your two-person wedding means forgetting all the stress of organizing a big wedding and having to deal with all the common issues that arise. The lucky bride and groom who choose Capanna as their elopement venue in Tuscany will have an area reserved exclusively for them during their wedding ceremony.

The happy couple can choose one of the incredible panoramic areas of our property, including the olive grove where hundred-year-old trees will frame the couple as they say their vows. The presence of a wedding photographer is included in one of the packages if you want to capture all the magical moments to keep forever and share with loved ones.

Included in both packages: private Spa access with exclusive use just for the two newlyweds to relax after the ceremony and enjoy a couples massage. After relaxing, the newlyweds will enjoy a celebratory gourmet dinner served for them in our restaurant, Il Passaggio.

THE SPA
The whole SPA in exclusive use just for you. The wellness center, always included in the room price, is open from 11:00 to 19:30. You can use our SPA for one hour a day, for each night of your stay, for the exclusive use of your room.

Reserve your moment of total well-being and intimacy when booking your stay, to have more possibilities to use it at the time you prefer. Alternatively, you can book your wellness break during your stay, by 19:00 for the next day.

Created for people who want to immerse themselves in wellness and relaxation, Capanna Suites offers an elegant and inviting spa that is open year-round. Built in a completely renovated typical Tuscan building with high quality fixtures, the spa offers a relaxing and intimate atmosphere.

SWIMMING POOL & HYDRO-MASSAGE
Let yourself be massaged by the delicate jets of the indoor pool, lined with quartzite and filled with hot water (approximately 35° C), with four hydro-massage chairs, two air beds and a double waterfall. Give yourself a marvelous moment of warm and restful relaxation that is perfect after a demanding activity or a day spent exploring the region.

THE SAUNA
Whoever loves being enveloped in heat will certainly enjoy our Finnish sauna, built with high-quality pinewood slats, which can host up to four people at a time.

This activity is highly recommended for active and dynamic people because it allows them to rest, permits a mental-physical relaxation, diminishes anxiety and promotes deep and restorative sleep afterwards. The sauna also purifies the skin, making it more radiant, smooth and elastic.

THE TURKISH BATH
For a moment of lightness and wellness, our guests can let their worries go in our steam room, lined completely with travertine. The Turkish bath isn’t just a simple steam bath, but according to the Middle Eastern tradition it is also a pleasant occasion of opening oneself up and socializing, and it represents a moment of relaxation and wellness.

NOT JUST WINE
The majority of experiences on our property will surely always be focused on wine, but the horizons are always expanding and include the identity, the profoundness, and the beauty of all the elements (air, bouquet, land, passion, sun, tradition, etc.) that together contribute to the final perfection expressed by our wines.

FROM THE LAND TO THE VINEYARDS
Capanna currently has 20 hectares of vineyards planted in bilateral spurred cordon with Sangiovese, Merlot, and Pinot Grigio grapevines selected from the very best clones and ancient white Moscato rootstock dating back to the 16th century.

The vineyards, spread mostly around Montosoli hill (one of the historic cru of Montalcino), enjoy a very special micro-climate and are planted at an altitude of between 250 and 300 meters above sea level in soil that is predominantly clay (galestro) and skeleton-rich.

Our vineyards are cared for using innovative agricultural practices aimed at improving the ecosystem. Our methodology, combined with the favorable characteristics of the climate and terrain, guarantee the production of wines that have excellent structure and good acidity and that are fruity and long-lasting.

THE WINE CELLAR
Our wine cellar is ancient and has retained all the style and architectural elements that are typically found in the Tuscan countryside. It includes an inviting tasting room and a large area for fermentation where we use traditional truncated-conical vats made from Slavonian oak in the production of our Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino.

The winery continues with a splendid basement wine cellar which has traditional oak casks used for aging which happens in the charming stone gallery as well as in the original rooms that have been carefully restored over the years.

Side-by-side with tradition we have introduced cutting edge technology, for example: temperature control in every phase of transformation and the automatic pump-over system.

All the historic rooms, just like the rooms for bottling, labeling, packaging and storage, are temperature controlled to have constant and optimal conditions to ensure the perfect preservation of our wines.

Our wine is dedicated to those who know how to appreciate outstanding and sophisticated products, because they know that these are the end result of a long and demanding journey full of joys and sacrifices that place importance on quality over quantity.

WINES & PRODUCTS
Capanna produces all the different typical wines from the region of Montalcino that follow the rules for designation of origin labeling: Brunello di Montalcino DOCG (as well as Riserva produced only with the best vintages), Rosso di Montalcino DOC, Moscadello di Montalcino DOC (as well as Late Harvest), and Sant’Antimo DOC red and white wine.

We also produce two IGT Toscana wines: Rosso del Cerro and SanGioBì. Besides wine, we produce extra virgin olive oil, Brunello grappa and Moscadello grappa.

THE ROOTS
Capanna was founded in 1957 by Grandfather Giuseppe Cencioni in order to break free from the mezzadria sharecropping system. With incredible sacrifices he was able to purchase the Capanna farm that included 25 hectares of woodlands and fields, all in a state of complete disrepair.

There was an enormous amount of work to be done in order to rebuild the property, the olive grove and the vineyards, especially because of the bad freeze of 1956 that had damaged most of the plants. Giuseppe had ahead of himself a very difficult road.

THE GAMBLE
Money was tight, but thanks to his entrepreneurial vision and readiness to gamble and take a risk, Giuseppe got a mortgage from the Agrarian Credit Institute of Tuscany and in 1960, with the help of relatives, he was able to plant the first specialized vineyard.

In 1966, the Brunello di Montalcino DOC (Denomination of Controlled Origin) was established and in 1967 Giuseppe became one of 25 founding members of the Brunello Consortium.

THE EARLY YEARS
The 1964 vintage was the first Capanna Brunello to be sold on the market. While following the authentic traditions of Tuscan agriculture with a focus on wine, olive oil and livestock farming, from that moment on the company began to grow. Thanks to a constant attention to quality, and a mentality of hard work and sacrifice, Capanna continues to grow today.

THE LAND
The area surrounding Capanna Suites is one of the most acclaimed and picturesque on the planet. We are in the very heart of the Val d’Orcia, close to Montalcino which is home to one of the very best wines.

There are endless wineries to discover dotted among the marvelous rolling hills in this corner of the province of Siena. It is a true paradise for those who are passionate about wine. For centuries, in this place, humans have known how to co-exist with nature, leaving intact a beauty and specialness that is sure to amaze you.

You will be taken in by the endless colors, cultural sites, medieval towns, scenic landscapes, incomparable flavors, relaxing thermal baths and many more attractions and activities this area has to offer.

MONTALCINO
The territory where Capanna Suites is located is one of the most well-loved and beautiful in all of Italy. We are in the very heart of the Val d’Orcia in Tuscany, just a stone’s throw from Montalcino. Here you will find dozens of wonderful wineries to explore among the panoramic vineyards that stretch across the incredible Sienese hills. Wine lovers will be in heaven!

Just five minutes away by car from Capanna Suites is the stunning town of Montalcino and the birthplace of the famous Brunello di Montalcino wine. The hilltop town of Montalcino offers incredible views to the beautiful Val d’Orcia below.

The main sites to see in Montalcino are the Fortress, the Duomo (main cathedral), the Church of the Madonna and the glorious Sant’Antimo Abbey in Castel Nuovo dell’Abate that is just 10 minutes from Montalcino.

SIENA
Siena is one of the most popular and visited places in Tuscany, a place extremely rich in history and art and with strong local traditions tied to its 17 districts (called “contrade”) and to the famous Palio di Siena, the biggest annual event that takes place twice each summer in the city.

Located in the heart of Tuscany, Siena can be easily reached from the other cities in the region by car, train or bus.The city center is closed to traffic, so if you’re planning to arrive by car you’ll still have to move on foot or by public transport to visit Siena.

The train station is located outside the city, but it is well connected with the city center by buses. If you have the time in Tuscany, do return for a second day! If you’re going to Siena without a car, I recommend you read this article on getting to and visiting Siena without a car which has information on the various ways to get there.

If you do drive to Siena, then you’ll certainly find useful information on where to park in this article on Parking in Siena. A day in Siena is certainly not enough to experience the city in all of its many sides, nor to visit all of its treasures.

In a day, however, with a bit of organization, you’ll certainly be able to see the main attractions of Siena and to appreciate the charm and atmosphere of this lovely medieval town, probably leaving with the desire to return as soon as possible. VAL D’ORCIA

The towns include: Pienza which was built in the 15th century as the ideal city under the patronage of Pope Pius II, Radicofani which is the birthplace of the famous military hero Ghino di Tacco, and of course Montalcino which is home to Brunello, one of the most prestigious Italian wines and classified as the best wine in the world in 2007 by Wine Spectator magazine.

This landscape is very familiar to us because of its representation in so many works of art, from Renaissance paintings to modern photography. In 2004 the Val d’Orcia (Orcia Valley) was added to the list of UNESCO world heritage sites.

Thermal springs, outdoor activities, and food & wine. The Val d’Orcia is a fascinating corner of Tuscany. It is less crowded than the Chianti region, which experiences more mass tourism. This valley, with its hilltop towns, is a geographic area that is rich in history, natural beauty and tons of activities you can participate in.

There are various thermal springs that are easily reached, the most famous is perhaps that of Bagno Vignoni and San Quirico d’Orcia, whose healing waters are optimal for the treatment of osteoarthritis, extra-articular rheumatisms (lower back pain from rheumatism, tendinitis), cellulite, alterations of vain circulation, gynecological as well as dermatological issues.

Chianciano is another town that has many types of thermal baths (including sensory thermal experiences) and can satisfy the needs of various types of clients from young to not-so-young.

The most beautiful and scenic of the thermal baths are perhaps those of San Filippo, in Castiglione d’Orcia. This natural hot springs features an enormous waterfall with white limestone deposits and is hidden in a magical place in the woods that is sure to capture your imagination and heart.

The landscape of rolling hills that connects Siena to the Val d’Orcia is very famous, with certain spots being a true symbol of Tuscany. Our region offers the possibility for many experiences such as biking, truffle hunting, hiking and horseback riding.

And last but not least we must mention the incredible food of the region! The Val d’Orcia has a series of regional dishes that are truly divine, such as pici pasta with truffle or garlic, steaks, and the local Pecorino sheep cheese.
