Following a dusty dirt road can lead you to magical places, and this road will take you straight to you the lush oasis of Castle Hot Springs. Whether you’re looking to unwind in our hot springs or go on an adventure in the Sonoran Desert, our inclusive experience takes you on a memorable journey and you’ll leave here feeling better than when you arrived.
Castle Hot Springs is a historical icon, nestled in a rugged and remote desert location northwest of the Phoenix/Scottsdale metro area. Boasting a colorful history, yet untouched for nearly 40 years, this natural gem in the Bradshaw Mountains continued to produce restorative thermal waters as it waited for an inevitable return as a favorite destination resort.
THE BEGINNING
In the beginning, indigenous people journeyed to the waters for medicinal purposes. The arrival of the railroad southeast of Wickenburg soon brought promise and a new interest in the springs.
Arizona entrepreneur Frank M. Murphy purchased the property to capitalize on the restoring benefits of the water and the desert environment. Bringing history to herald Castle Hot Springs as the first Arizona wellness resort.
TREKKING TO THE SPRING
The first guests to the resort had to endure a difficult five-hour stagecoach ride to reach the springs. The journey was made easier in 1898 when the first train depot was built nearby, followed by the first bus service ten years later.
THE SPRINGS ARE CALLING
The natural hot springs at the heart of our property emanates from the rock and cascade into three hot springs pools of varying temperatures and the warm waters are used to heat the main resort pool. Additionally, water is piped to Spring Bungalows to fill private soak tubs and is also used throughout the Farm.
A WESTWARD MOVE
At the turn of the 20th century, throngs of people continued moving west, many for their health. These intrepid travelers sought the rejuvenating springs. American master artist, Maxfield Parrish, stayed in the winter of 1901-1902. The Arizona terrain is said to have influenced his iconic skies.
GLITZ & GLAMOUR
Celebrities and dignitaries from around the world found their way to the waters of Castle Hot Springs. The guest register includes magnates of industry like the Rockefeller and the Pew families plus the Vanderbilts and Astors.
President Theodore Roosevelt stayed at the resort during the dedication of the Roosevelt Dam. In the 1940’s the resort was used as a military rehabilitation center to treat veterans wounded during World War II. One famous serviceman who rested at Castle Hot Springs was future president John F. Kennedy.
END OF AN ERA
In 1976 a fire broke out in the Palm House, destroying the beautiful building that had become a symbol of the resort. The building known as the Wrigley Cottage was caught in another fire in 1996, and a few years later, many of the remaining buildings were torn down.
Today, the Lodge embodies the original Palm House and includes our award winning restaurant, Harvest and a gathering bar – complete with an expansive outdoor terrace, plus a front desk key rack displayed as it was in the early days.
PHOENIX RISES
The property changed ownership a few more times before being purchased by an Arizona couple who acquired it in 2014 and completed the reconstruction/development of the property in 2019.
They are committed to Castle Hot Springs, honoring the legacy of this unique property and offering genuine hospitality at this desert hideaway. Much like the mythical Phoenix that emerges to start a new long life, Castle Hot Springs has returned to deliver wellness and privacy with attentive service, in a verdant desert oasis.

SANUS PER AQUAM
The word “SPA” is an acronym for the latin phrase, Sanus Per Aquam, meaning “healing through water”. Here at Castle Hot Springs, we take this original meaning to the heart of our wellness experience.
Take a soak in the springs before any spa treatment, after an adventure or just to wind down the day. In any case, the springs are at the core of the wellness experience and available exclusively to you during your stay.
NATURAL HOT SPRINGS
From deep within the Bradshaw Mountains, a mineral elixir debuts above ground in a stunning canyon at Castle Hot Springs. What starts as rain, sinks through cracks in the ground and flows through underground streams to be warmed by the earth and filled with a unique mineral blend.
For centuries people have sought out hot springs all over the world for bathing, healing, socializing and spiritual intentions. Hot springs were the world’s first spas; the naturally warm, mineral-rich waters flowing from the ground have soothed aches and pains for millennia. Take a soak and let the serenity of this desert oasis soothe the mind and revive the soul.
The unique water is particularly rich in lithium, magnesium, and bicarbonates, which help lift your mood, calm your mind, and ease aching joints and muscles. These minerals have inspired a focus for your stay on Joy, Serenity and Renewal.
THE BENEFITS OF HOT SPRINGS
Castle Hot Springs recently teamed up with Medicine Springs, where founder and mineral expert Brandon Price explained the unique characteristics and benefits of the water in this Sonoran Desert oasis. As the hot, geothermic water rises to the surface it carries dissolved minerals with it.
“In modern times, when vitamin supplements are routine, in part due to soil depletion and environment factors… the healing minerals in hot springs are a natural way to revive those that soak in the warmth,” Price explains.
LITHIUM (.30 MG/L)
Lithium boosts mood, promotes feelings of calmness, happiness and joy and leaves you with a general sense of wellbeing. Your body naturally contains a small amount of lithium. It is important for brain health and the growth and resiliency of neurons.
The lithium in our waters is one of the most unique elements of our hot springs. The amount of Lithium found in our mineral waters is rare and particularly prized for the sense of well-being that they bring in addition to the other mineral benefits.
MAGNESIUM (1.45 MG/L)
Magnesium helps reduce inflammation and calm the nerves – and it’s particularly good for helping support a good night’s rest. It also speeds up muscle recovery, so it’s especially beneficial after a long hike, bike ride or travel.
BICARBONATES (137 MG/L)
Bicarbonates improve circulation, and also help to remove lactic acid from the muscles – lactic acid is what causes soreness, fatigue and even muscle spasms after a tough workout, so bicarbonates are particularly beneficial if you’ve done a long hike or challenged yourself on the Via Ferrata.
SODIUM (218.89 MG/L)
Sodium is great for joint aches and arthritis and helps maintain body fluid balance. The sodium in our water binds with sulfur, which means you get all the benefits of sulfur without the sulfur smell, including fantastic benefits for the skin. Sodium sulfates help ease eczema, psoriasis and acne troubles.
CALCIUM (33.82 MG/L)
Calcium is essential for muscle function and helps strengthen bones. It is essential in regulating many internal organs, such as the heart.
THE DESERT SOAKING EXPERIENCE
Surrender to this desert oasis as you traverse alongside this natural spring creek under towering palm trees, casting serene sounds through the crisp Sonoran air as you make your way up to the top pools, relaxation deck, and locker room. Let the canyon walk calm your mind and prepare your body for an immersion as you have never experienced before.
TOP POOL
This is closest to the source and therefore the warmest pool. The average temperature of 106F puts you at the spot that the water emits from the earth. Relax in the clear water, reflecting a wall of stunning colors as the sound of multiple waterfalls surrounds you.
SECOND POOL
From the top pool, the water cascades into the next while cooling to an ideal temperature of about 96F. Best for extended soaking enjoy the canyon walls and the feel of natural desert floor under your feet, grounding you to the natural environment and heightening the senses.
THIRD POOL
From the first two pools, the water meanders down the canyon into the deepest pool where the temperature hovers around 86F. An idyllic desert swimming hole, surrounded by towering palm trees that have welcomed guests for years.
GET THE MOST FROM YOUR SOAK
Allow plenty of time in your stay itinerary to luxuriate in the hot springs pools. Soaking in the hot springs pools is one of the most important parts of your resort experience, we know you will leave with a greater sense of well-being because of them.
Benefits are enhanced with repetition and contrast circuits that include a warm soak, alternated with a cold water deluge. It is a great time to calm your mind, stretch your legs and allow the senses to experience the amazing world you are part of. Grab your swimsuit and get ready, here are a few suggestions to help maximize your time at Castle Hot Springs.
Keep hydrated – drink plenty of water before and after your soak. The arid Arizona climate, warm water and even a recent flight all sap much needed moisture. Be sure to drink water throughout the day.
Try a soak after a long hike to ease muscle soreness and joint pain – the bicarbonates in the water help to remove lactic acid from your muscles, while sodium is great for joint pain, and magnesium helps reduce inflammation.
Soak in our hot springs before bed or in the private tub in your guestroom. A general sense of wellbeing and relaxation, enhanced by the minerals, support a restful night of sleep.
