Draw strength from the tranquillity and experience the Dolomite region in all its facets – this is what a holiday looks like at the Steger-Dellai, the 4-star hotel directly on the Seiser Alm.
Summer and winter alike, exciting experiences await at every turn – Paula Wiesinger and Hans Steger, the mountain pioneers who made the Steger-Dellai what it is today, already knew this: it’s an oasis for those seeking peace and quiet, a starting point for active holidaymakers, and a refuge for pleasure seekers.
PAULA WIESINGER & HANS STEGER
The hotel’s long history began in 1934 as a simple Alpine inn. Just 13 years later, the pioneers Paula & Hans Steger moved in. She was a ski legend, and he a pioneer in mountaineering and modern ski technology.
Together, they renovated the former refuge from the ground up and turned it into one of the first luxury hotels in the Dolomites. With a lot of love, sincere hospitality, and joy, they ran the hotel side by side. In 2000, the transfer of ownership and more renovation followed. Even now the hotel is managed according to the pioneer’s values.
In 2000, Paula established a foundation to support charitable projects and nature conservation on the Seiser Alm. All the couple’s assets belong to the foundation. The “Hans and Paula Memorial Trail“ was opened in 2006 in honour of the pioneers.
HANS STEGER – A PIONEER
Born in Bavaria in 1907, the trained carpenter set off into the world after his apprenticeship. He travelled through Italy to Tunisia and back. At least almost: in 1927, he settled in Bozen for a while and fell in love with the striking mountain peaks of the Schlern and his future wife Paula during an excursion.
Hans Steger is considered a pioneer of modern skiing techniques and was a sports promoter among the youth throughout his life. He was known far beyond the country’s borders for his abilities as a climbing guide, and famous personalities from the world of art and nobility only allowed him to guide them through the Dolomites.
PAULA WIESINGER – A LEGEND
Born in Bozen in 1907, “La Paula” only skied for the first time in the 1920s. 1932 she became downhill world champion in Cortina d’Ampezzo, and within seven years, Paula won a total of 20 Italian championship titles. Hans Steger was always at her side.
But skiing was not the only thing in her blood: she was one of the few female mountaineers of her time and mastered some challenging first ascents. Paula ran her hotel in the Dolomites with heart and soul until her final days.
SEISER ALM
For us, having a heart for the environment means having a heart for the future. At the Steger-Dellai, it is a matter of course to respect the Seiser Alm nature reserve and preserve its beauty. As a hotel in South Tyrol that values nature, the Steger-Dellai attaches great importance to keeping things natural, maintaining a small carbon footprint, and low-impact tourism.
Fresh spring water comes directly from the Alpine pasture, and the vegetables come from the hotel garden near our partner, La Paula. When possible, the chef buys from regional suppliers. Environmental awareness is just as present in the rooms and can be found in the high-quality, natural materials used to design the spaces.
A SUSTAINABLE CONCEPT
With an area of around 500m², we grow what we eat in the mornings, at lunchtime, and in the evenings: A sustainable concept based on consciously shaping natural ecosystems and conserving nature. We cultivate many old varieties of fruit and vegetables, herbs and spices, which find their way into the kitchen every day and shape our natural cuisine.
THE LARGEST HIGH ALPINE PASTURE
Once you’ve arrived, you won’t want to leave. With its vast Alpine pastures, gentle hills, and rugged Dolomite peaks, the Seiser Alm is not only a place of tranquillity but also an absolute paradise for activities. If you travel to the Seiser Alm by car, it can also enjoy a break.
The Seiser Alm Dolomites region is a traffic-calmed nature reserve. That means there is a general ban on driving between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Every guest at the Steger-Dellai receives a driving permit on the day of arrival and departure.
ROOMS & SUITES
These rooms on the Seiser Alm guarantee a great night’s sleep and beautiful dreams. The interior design concept brings nature inside through the use of natural materials. Local woods and high-quality natural materials combine South Tyrolean tradition with Alpine flair.

The ingredients used by our kitchen team come from our own garden, from regional producers, and are carefully selected according to the season. The chefs work tirelessly on multi-faceted creations that combine and reinterpret traditional South Tyrolean cuisine with the lightness of Mediterranean fare.
FROM THE GARDEN INTO THE KITCHEN
An exciting and varied gastronomic concept: the Steger-Dellai Hotel has a 500m² permaculture garden. Red beets, colourful tomatoes, purple carrots, and other ancient varieties of vegetables find a place there.
Then there is the hotel’s own herb garden, which complements and completes our natural cuisine. The best thing about it: every day, at least one ingredient from the garden finds its way into the kitchen and onto the plates!
THE BREAKFAST
A good start to the day is particularly important for an exciting time on the Seiser Alm. Nothing more stands in the way of a successful day on holiday.
The rich breakfast made of South Tyrolean quality products is the best prerequisite for this: freshly brewed coffee, various tea specialities, fragrant pastries, and crispy wholewheat bread, plus various mueslis, freshly prepared egg dishes, cheese, sausage, and ham specialities from local producers…
THE DINNER
As enjoyable as the day begins, it also ends. The culinary delights range from traditional South Tyrolean dishes to Mediterranean cuisine and international creations.
Particularly delicious and with the best ingredients, there is something here for every palate. The weekly themed evenings, where the chef takes guests on special culinary journeys, are a real highlight.
