The scent of cedar in the air. The taste of sea salt on your tongue. The thrill of observing animals in the wild. The rush of discovery. The stillness of the forest. A longing to reconnect.
Observe the local wildlife pawing the shoreline for their breakfast. Sink into a soothing massage before paddling out to our floating sauna. Awaken your palette with locally foraged culinary delights, expertly prepared under the open sky. Walk amongst ancient cedar giants.
Cast a line into breathtaking mountainside rivers, accessed only by helicopter. Shower in sea spray from a breaching whale as it surfaces to greet you. Settle in around the outdoor fire for connection, storytelling and nightcaps. Sleep soundly in the luxury of stillness, surrounded by nature’s calls.
Leave the rush behind and return to nature as you set out on your journey to Nimmo Bay. Located in the heart of British Columbia’s wild Great Bear Rainforest, on the rugged West Coast of Canada, we are a remote retreat destination that is surprisingly within reach.
Our expert team will be happy to help you plan your travel to and from the resort, so all you have to decide is whether you’d like to first soak in the serenity of the cedar sauna, or jump in our helicopter for a guided wilderness tour.
As a family-owned and operated resort, our roots in the wilderness run deep. Welcoming guests for nearly 40 years has taught us a thing or two about world-class hospitality, facilitating wild experiences and going above and beyond to help create lasting memories for each and every person who steps foot on our dock.
LOCATION
What began as a quaint fishing lodge has expanded naturally into the world-renowned wilderness resort that Nimmo is known as today. With nine private chalets hosting 18 guests or more, plus room for boats and helicopters, there is no shortage of imaginative ways to experience this remarkably wild place.
Covering a range from sea level to 13,000 ft., with access to 50,000 sq. miles of coastal wilderness, the Great Bear Rainforest is yours to explore. Guests can enjoy whale watching, heli-hiking, fine coastal dining, beachcombing, kayaking, paddleboarding, mindful hiking, wellness treatments, glacier trekking, wildlife viewing, and much more.
Now more than ever, we recognize the importance of tuning out the buzz of modern life, and stilling the mind through adventure and wellness-based activities. We warmly invite you to return to nature, and experience reconnection for yourself.
THE HISTORY
In 1980, Craig and Deborah Murray felt a call that few of us have heard before. It was coming from the Great Bear Rainforest, on British Columbia’s wild west coast. They felt there had to be a simpler way of life – one with more opportunity for connection to what matters most.
With a young family in tow, they set out to create a life spent immersed in nature. Surrounded by ancient forests, natural ecosystems, clean air and water, the Murrays knew this was their chance to reconnect and co-exist in harmony with the land.
The first guests of Nimmo Bay Resort arrived in June of 1981, ready to see what this remote wilderness could offer them. What the Murrays soon discovered was more than they could have imagined – a place that revived weary spirits, invoked exploration and provided all a sense of ease and oneness with nature.
Today, under the modern leadership of their eldest son Fraser and his wife Becky, the Murrays continue to welcome all those in search of reconnection and adventure into their wild backyard at Nimmo Bay.
CABINS
Whether you stay in an ocean-facing intertidal cabin, or in one of our forest cabins located alongside a natural stream and waterfall, each comes equipped with two bedrooms, one bathroom, a lounge area, sumptuous special touches and unprecedented housekeeping service.
Both cabin types offer breathtaking views of the wilderness in equally tranquil settings, inviting you to relax and recharge after a day of outdoor adventure. Ask our booking team which cabin might be best for your group.
PLAN YOUR WILDLIFE VIEWING
Hoping to increase your chances of spotting a majestic local grizzly bear? Plan your trip for September-October (but black bears have been know to roam about all season long). Our local whale watching season typically begins July 1 and continues into the fall, but sea lions should be splashing about all season long.
Our numerous resort activities and amenities are of course available all season long, no matter the timing of your stay. When it comes to wildlife viewing, simply inform our booking team of your desired experience, and we will be happy to provide more information on the timing of nature’s schedule. No matter when you visit Nimmo Bay, the rainforest will be teeming with life, inviting you to get to know her many inhabitants.

CREATING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
We strive to live a life in balance, explore mindfully, tread lightly and give more back to the land and our community than we take. From the beginning, the Murray family has strived to create and share their dream of living off the land, while minimizing their footprint on the environment itself.
That’s why you’ll find landmark innovations like our hydro power system fueled by streams and waterfalls, providing clean drinking water and up to 80% of our resort’s power needs, as well as floating docks in lieu of deforested land.
We sustainably source our culinary ingredients, support local farms, makers, and surrounding communities through tourism and education, compost, recycle, carry out excess waste, convert our waste water to clean water suitable for re-entry to the environment, and fund groundbreaking wildlife research and fin-fishing aquaculture activism.
