LOCATION
Son Brull is situated just 3km (a 7-minute drive) from Pollensa, in the north of Mallorca. A rich history of Moorish invasions, Roman conquests and Christian rule have left their mark on this charming town and a visit here is a highlight of any stay at Son Brull luxury boutique hotel.
The Roman Bridge is among Pollensa’s most interesting landmarks, a memory of an ancient civilization that once inhabited this picturesque town by the valley. Christianity was later embedded into Mallorcan culture with the arrival of the Jesuits who built many churches, among them Pollensa’s beautiful baroque Monti Sion church.
Today, most of Pollensa’s activity is focused around the buzzing Plaza Major. Lined with cafes and the setting of a local Sunday market, it’s the perfect place to sit back with an aperitif on a summer’s afternoon and watch the world go by.
Along Pollensa’s narrow cobblestoned streets are honey-coloured stone buildings housing boutiques, galleries and crafts shops, giving the town a distinctive artistic feel. Formentor beach is just 7km from Pollensa and is one of Mallorca’s most beautiful; a long stretch of sand with a backdrop of pine trees, the beach has restaurants, bars, watersports and lifeguards on duty.
THE HISTORY
Nestled in the foothills of Northern Mallorca, the magnificent honey-coloured property was originally built as an ‘alqueria’ (an Arabic farmhouse) in the 12th century during Mallorca’s Arab rule, before becoming a pillar of the Christian faith in the 18th century when it housed a Jesuit monastery.
Back in the 1700s, Son Brull’s resident monks lived off the land and welcomed tired travellers in need of shelter, food and solace. Fast forward three centuries and Son Brull continues to focus on excellent hospitality (albeit in more luxurious surroundings) and local island cuisine gleaned from the sea, the surrounding mountains and its very own garden and groves.
In 2003, the former monastery was lovingly restored by the Suau family (who have a strong background in the hospitality industry) and transformed into one of Mallorca’s best boutique hotels, while maintaining its unique architectural heritage.
Proudly Mallorcan, the three Suau siblings ensure that the history of the monastery and its important island references continue to live on in the hotel today. Traces of Son Brull’s rich heritage are visible throughout, but perhaps most notably in the main building’s beautiful stone and the atmospheric former olive mill that now houses the hotel’s tapas and cocktail bar.

DINING
Gourmet cuisine that highlights the excellence of Mallorcan produce is central to Son Brull Hotel’s philosophy. Local gastronomy is at the very heart of the Son Brull experience, with three excellent eateries open to guests and non-guests alike.
At Restaurant 365, head chef Andreu Segura sources traditional Mallorcan ingredients – many from the hotel’s own grounds and groves – to create exquisite à la carte dishes.
Or for an all-round gourmet experience, the restaurant’s seasonal 8-course tasting menus are matched with regional wines and served under the stars on the terrace or in the elegant dining room. Both the à la carte and tasting menus offer vegetarian and vegan dishes.
The modern bistro offers lighter dishes to enjoy on the terrace, or by the fireplace indoors during cooler months. But perhaps the most interesting setting of all is the hotel’s bar, housed in the property’s original 18th century olive mill.
Here, guests can admire their historic surroundings while sampling fusion tapas and creative cocktails. Picnics can be prepared to take on excursions, for guests enjoying a boat or hiking trips. Guests can also order a private lunch served in the hotel gardens or vineyard.

Diners will enjoy one of the best restaurants in Pollensa, experiencing the unique flavours of the island in the elegant candle-lit dining room or on the terrace overlooking the valley.

FINCA
Son Brull’s fascinating history stretches back to the 12th century. Initially an Aluqueria (meaning farmhouse/stables in Arabic), through the centuries the hotel’s land has provided shelter and food in many different forms.
In keeping with this history and our personal commitment towards sustainability, Son Brull continues to grow it’s own produce and to support local producers of a similar ethos. On a daily basis, the Son Brull organic farm supplies our chefs with the very best of each season; artichokes, tomatoes and fruits, including oranges, lemons and figs.
From our own hectare of vines, we are also able to make our own red, white and rose wines, available in the restaurants or to purchase. Guests are very welcome to wander through the orchards, and we very much hope our commitment to environmental sustainability will contribute to our guest experience.
