In addition, our wine list gained, among other accolades, the highest honour of three stars in World of Fine Wine magazine’s World’s Best Wine List awards. The Jagdhof wine list has also received excellent reviews from the Falstaff Restaurant Guide – the top rating of 20 out of 20!

Over the decades, we’ve come to know quite a bit about wine, meaning that in our cellar we can find the right drop for pretty much every taste.

We can tell you which tipples are perfect for everyday quaffing, which are the best thirst-quenchers for hot summer days, which are good for enjoying on holiday or while you relax after a stressful day, which complement special occasions, and which have cult value or are rarities.

To be added to our list, a wine needs to meet a number of criteria. The first is when our guests and wine connoisseurs make a specific request. But we also test and taste unfamiliar wines at the Jagdhof to determine whether or not they would complement our existing selection.

Many rare wines are also explicitly on our sommeliers’ wish list. As soon as the winemakers we approach can offer us a sufficient allocation, we add them to the Jagdhof wine list, often to the great surprise of our guests.

THE JAGDHOF’S FONDUE GONDOLA 
‘Feasting on cloud nine’ is how we describe dining in the Fondue Gondola at the Stubai Valley’s 5-star gourmet hotel. The disused cable car gondola has been beautifully converted into a cosy Tyrolean Stube, and is now located on the Jagdhof’s generous terrace where guests enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding three-thousanders and the majestic Stubai Glacier at the end of the valley.

Comfortably seating up to five, the Fondue Gondola is a unique setting for an unforgettable evening, whatever the season. Summer guests enjoy tasty local specialities, while in the cold months of winter it’s the in-place for cosy gourmet nights with popular fondue classics: choose between meat, cheese or chocolate.

Private dining in the Jagdhof’s Fondue Gondola: the perfect place for a private get-together with family and close friends, or­­ – of course ­– for romance! The oldest known recipe for cheese fondue dates back to 1699, with the term fondue coming from the French and meaning ‘melted’.

Unsurprisingly, this refers to the molten cheese in the original fondue from Switzerland, where it has been the national dish since the 1950s (although Savoy and Piedmont also claim it as their own). The savoury favourite was even included in the Swiss army’s cookbook. Enjoy this culinary tradition inside the Jagdhof’s Fondue Gondola in privacy and great company.

It’s a local speciality, so exploring the schnapps distilleries on the Tyrolean schnapps route is a must on any foodie’s itinerary! We visited some of Tyrol’s best distillers on your behalf to find out more about one of our most famous culinary traditions.

It took eight hours of hard work: tasting, viewing, sniffing, asking questions and taking pictures. Our Jagdhof tour of schnapps producers immersed us deep into the whys and wherefores of Tyrolean spirits, giving us a behind the scenes peek of the best distilleries in the region.

Alban Pfurtscheller, Philipp Loimayer – the youngest Jagdhof sommelier – and Albin Mayr, head sommelier at the Jagdhof, go above and beyond when it comes to researching the region’s food and drink traditions.

This is a story of a rewarding day out at four distilleries that share a long tradition and passion for making schnapps, during which they learnt a great deal about the art of distilling. The schnapps foray took the tipsy trio to stills of highly polished copper, through warehouses filled with demijohns and barrique barrels, and into stylish tasting and sales rooms.

The thrill of the descent takes over as you zip down the slopes, across fresh powdery snow. On a pair of touring skis, the range of exciting mountain experiences you can have on your winter holiday opens up before you. Safe choices are provided by the pristinely prepared pistes on the Stubai Glacier, Serlesbahnen Mieders or Elferbahnen.

Alternatively, the guided option for experienced ski tourers leaves from the 2,247m-high Franz-Senn-Hütte – the area’s best ski touring base – and ascends to the summits of the Stubai Alps. There’s something for everyone, complete beginners and seasoned ski tourers alike!

TOBOGGANGING
Whether you walk up to the Elfer, take the cable car or go by toboggan taxi – you can look forward to zipping down the 8km-long natural toboggan run, one of Tyrol’s longest, right into the village centre of Neustift. Embrace a winter holiday in Stubai with all your senses.
